Camperships
The Gulf Stream Council believes that every Scout should have the opportunity to enjoy outdoor and camping experiences regardless of the family's inability to afford the expense. For that reason, we have set aside funds to provide for those who need assistance.
A Scout’s event fees generally should come from three sources:
- 1/3 from the Scout who has sold popcorn and Mega Show coupons and otherwise saved – "a Scout is Thrifty" – for his camping experience while learning the important lesson of working and saving for his wants and needs.
- 1/3 from the unit who budgeted camp fees for their members and set aside fundraising income for those who participated in the unit fundraising.
- The final 1/3 comes from the parents who share in the expense of their Scout's participation in the Scouting program.
It is this final third which some families find impossible to set aside for their Scout. This is the portion of the fee for which the family can request assistance from the Council. Camperships are considered for both Boy Scout and Cub Scout Summer Camps in the above proportion.
